q visas

The Q nonimmigrant visa is reserved for a participant in an international cultural exchange program approved by the Attorney General (e.g., INS) for the purpose of providing practical training, employment and the sharing of the history, culture and traditions of the country of the alien's nationality and who will be employed under the same wages or working conditions as domestic workers. 

Maximum stay is limited to 15 months and applicant must establish an intent to return home after completion of the Q period of stay.   Spouse and minor children are permitted to accompany the principal Q visa holder.
